Fiber 232® Model 4154 POF Fiber Optic Repeater with RS232 Traffic Monitor Port, RoHS 2 Compliant

The Electro Standards Laboratories Fiber 232® Model 4154 POF Fiber Optic Repeater extends plastic optical fiber (POF) communication links by regenerating serial data signals while providing an RS232 traffic monitor port for network diagnostics. Designed for reliable data communication between optically linked equipment, this repeater supports transmission distances up to 75 meters (250 feet) over 1 mm plastic optical fiber.

The Model 4154 features two Versatile Link fiber connectors and a DB9 female RS232 monitor port, allowing technicians to monitor network traffic without introducing a direct metallic connection between the fiber link and monitoring equipment. Optical isolation helps protect connected devices from ground potential differences, while fiber-optic transmission provides immunity to electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electrostatic interference. Ideal for serial communication networks connecting controllers, terminals, and other compatible equipment, the Model 4154 offers a practical solution for extending POF links and simplifying network troubleshooting.

Model 4154 Fiber Optic Repeater Operation:

The POF Fiber Repeater with RS232 Monitor Port can be used to regenerate data signals in order to extend the range between optically linked equipment. It also has the capability to monitor network traffic via an RS232 Monitor Port. The fiber optic communication standard also allows data transmission that is no longer susceptible to electrostatic or electromagnetic fields.  Additionally, the RS232 monitor port is protected from damage by potential differences (ground variations) that often exist between them.

The drawing illustrates the Model 4154 POF Fiber Repeater with a DB9 copper interface connector as a monitor and two Plastic Optical Fiber Versalink connectors. The DB9 is connected to a PC / Network Analyzer. The POF Versalink connectors are linked to Video Gaming Machines. Video Gaming Machines are also linked to the two POF Fiber Optic connectors of the Model 4139. The DB9 connector of the Model 4139 is connected to the controller.
