Control System R&D - Development of experimental test bed control, electronics, and custom graphical user interface to test efficiency of hybrid electric vehicle starter/generators. Fuzzy logic outer loop controller developed to automatically tune control system for maximum power efficiency at given operating points. Increased starter/generator efficiency yields better gas mileage for HEV's and further travel between charges for pure electric vehicles. Picture below illustrates the graphical user interface developed by ESL scientists to operate and facilitate algorthim development and experimental verification. Note that the system has the ability to play back actual road profile data to determine system performance under true conditions. |
