Control Systems R&D - Development of adaptive control and mechanically sensorless control for the permanent magnet synchronous motor. Motor parameters are continually estimated in real-time. The results of the parameter estimator are used to retune the system gains such that optimum performance is maintained in spite of varying load conditions. Sensorless operation ensures fault tolerant servo operation if mechanical feedback is lost or not possible. Project includes algorithm development, modeling, simulation, design and implementation of electronics, and experimental verification. The figure below shows the velocity response of a vector controlled AC permanent magnet motor with 7X inertial mismatch before and after adaptation. The adaptation atuomatically retunes the system ensuring that underdamped behavior due to parameter mismatch is eliminated. |
